MCJA Awards

Tom Castellano Award

The Tom Castellano Award honors sustained and outstanding service to the Midwestern Criminal Justice Association. The award was created to pay tribute to Dr. Castellano’s dedication to social justice, and particularly his role as an advocate for restorative justice in the criminal justice system. Student Paper Competition

Student paper awards recognize outstanding undergraduate and graduate student research. Eligibility is limited to enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at the time of the annual conference (though faculty may co-author). . Practitioner Award

The practitioner award recognizes innovative and excellent practitioners in the criminal justice system who make a positive impact on the criminal justice system, including innovative research or policy implementation, active engagement with legislation, involvement with program operations, or other service to the field. Student Poster Competition

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to participate in the poster competition at the annual conference. Entries are limited to students who are first author on the poster (though faculty may co-author). Click here for submission guidelines and to see a list of award recipients. 

Student Scholarships

Undergraduate Student Registration Waiver

For currently enrolled undergraduate students presenting at the Annual Meeting; must be the lead presenter or first author on a paper/poster. The waiver provides registration support for a select number of students. Click here to find more information regarding eligibility, application processes, and awards.

Graduate Student Travel Scholarship (GSTS)

For currently enrolled graduate students presenting at the Annual Meeting who have not received a travel scholarship during the prior two (2) MCJA Annual Meetings. Must be the lead presenter on a paper/post; the student does not have to be listed as the first author. The GSTS provides funding to offset the costs of conference participation for a select number of students. Click here for more information about criteria and application processes.
